Situated in southeastern Jiangsu, and the center of Yangtze River Delta enjoying rapid economic development, Wuxi adjoins Taihu Lake to the south and the Yangtze River to the north. It is 128 kilometers away from Shanghai in the east and 183 kilometers away from Nanjing in the west.
Covering an area of 4,627 square kilometers and having a permanent population of 6.5 million, Wuxi has two county-level cities, Jiangyin and Yixing, and seven districts, namely, Chong’an, Nanchang, Beitang, Xishan, Huishan, Binhu and the Wuxi New district under its jurisdiction.
In 2014, Wuxi achieved a regional GDP of 820.531 billion yuan, with a year-on-year growth of 8.2 percent; 126,400 yuan in per capita GDP , up 7.9 percent; 76.801 billion yuan in public budget income of, yup 8.0 percent; 463.421 billion yuan in fixed asset investment , up 16 percent; 305.475 billion yuan in total retail revenue of social consumer goods , up 11.5 percent; 41,731 yuan in urban per capita disposable income , up 8.6 percent; and 22,266 yuan in rural per capita net income , up 10.1 percent.
