An electrician from the Wuxi Grand Hotel won the top prize at the 11th Lianzhou International Photo Festival (LIPF) in Guangdong province, according to the local portal wxrb.com.
The prizewinner Qian Haifeng has taken 150,000 photos on 227 "green trains", a traditional nickname for Chinese old style passenger trains, since 2008.
"I belong to the same group as those people on the train," said Qian, "and, though I am not a professional, I just want to preserve each moment that reflects our daily life."
The photos record passengers' lives on the trains and are of historical significance, especially when the nation's "green trains" are fading out of China's railway system as the high-speed rail industry booms across the country.
This year's LIPF is ongoing from Nov 21 to Dec 10 in Lianzhou, a county-level city of Guangdong. It will show nearly 10,000 photographs by established and emerging photographers from around the world. More than 2,000 artists, critics, collectors and cultural leaders attend the event.
