The city of Wuxi in Jiangsu province ushered in a new round of infrastructure construction beginning Dec 30, 2016, after Wuxi's top official, Li Xiaomin, authorized the construction of eight engineering projects for eight roads and bridges.
On the same day, a feasibility research report of the first construction phase for the city's fourth metro line was approved by the Jiangsu Development and Reform Commission. Adding the launch of a highway project connecting Wuxi and Changzhou as well, the city has ramped up to add more power to its economic engine.

Xu Zheng, the highest official at Wuxi Metro Group, said the whole group got highly motivated from the decisive strategies made by the government. Shortly before winning China's highest honor for engineering construction, the National Quality Engineering Golden Award, Wuxi Metro Group targeted bigger achievements for Metro Line 3 and 4.
As for the Wuxi-Changzhou Highway, which has been anticipated for nearly 20 years, the engineering drawing and bid inviting section is currently getting underway, according to the Wuxi's transport bureau. An official has stated his excitement about the development of the new lines with the belief that it will, upon opening for operation, relieve some of the pressure from the Shanghai-Nanjing line and further solidify the city as a regional transport hub.

The several new roads to be built in the city will greatly optimize the city's transport network and help serve the function of main roads in the future, an industry insider analyzed. All the road projects are scheduled to be launched in 2017.
