In ancient China, women were considered graceful to make embroideries in their boudoirs. There is an old saying that among all the needle works, embroidering is the most important one. Wuxi is one of the origins for embroidery. The craftsmen here have been inheriting and preserving Wuxi embroidery generations after generations.

Wuxi embroidery is also called fine embroidery or Xi embroidery, as one branch of embroidery art in Jiangsu province. According to the historical record, the Wuxi embroidery was invented more than 2,500 years ago.

The varied skills and stitches endow Wuxi embroidery with unique art value. The art gradually becomes a decoration for appreciating. Therefore, there's a saying about Wuxi embroidery that "no paintings, no Wuxi Embroideries".
