The city of Wuxi in eastern China's Jiangsu province announced that its first confirmed novel coronavirus patient had recovered and was discharged from hospital on Feb 3.
The 35-year-old man surnamed Cao is a Wuxi native who has been working and living in Wuhan for years. He came back to Wuxi by car on Jan 21 and was hospitalized on Jan 25 for suspected symptoms including fever.
Cao became the fourth confirmed case in Wuxi on Jan 27. After days of treatment, Cao tested negative for the novel coronavirus three consecutive times and has recovered normal temperatures over the period of four days.
The hospital said Cao is asked to stay at home for quarantine under medical observation for the next 14 days.
Wuxi reported four new novel coronavirus cases as of midnight on Feb 2, bringing the total number to 23. The city has traced 302 close contacts of the patients and put 287 under medical observation. A total of 271 confirmed cases have been reported in Jiangsu province.
