The number of tourists visiting Wuxi, Jiangsu province, surged by 11.83 percent from April 30 to May 5 compared to the same period last year, according to data from the online travel platform Tongcheng Travel.
Visitors born in the 1990s, 2000s, and 2010s accounted for 65.74 percent of the total, highlighting a significant trend toward younger tourists.
During the five-day May Day holiday, Wuxi's major attractions were teeming with visitors, recreating the bustling scenes of previous years. Popular sites such as Yuantouzhu, Huishan Ancient Town, Plum Garden, Liyuan Park, Wuxi Zoo and Lihu Lake Scenic Area collectively welcomed 960,000 visitors, marking an 11 percent increase from last year.
In response to the influx of tourists, various attractions in the city launched a range of unique cultural and tourism activities, fostering a special holiday atmosphere for both residents and visitors.
Huishan Ancient Town kicked off its Chinese-style spring tour season. At Jichang Garden, an immersive historical play vividly recreated scenes of literati savoring tea and discussing its quality.
At the Three Kingdoms and Water Margin Theme Park, a dazzling display of iron flowers sparked like a galaxy, beautifully complementing the ancient architecture. Accompanied by the sounds of war drums and the graceful silhouettes of dancers, each scene transported visitors to a fantastical night where the styles of the Han (206 BC-AD 220) and Song (960-1279) dynasties blended seamlessly.
