China Railway Express has expanded its pet transport service to 32 new stations, including Wuxi, and 92 additional high-speed trains from July 1, bringing the total coverage to 163 stations and 364 trains.

In addition, the railway authority has rolled out three key improvements: a booking option via the 12306 app to complement the existing WeChat mini-program, cooling services for summer travel, and upgraded transport containers. These containers now feature automatic water refilling, night-vision video monitoring, remote electric ventilation, and improved battery life and signal transmission.

Travelers can identify eligible trains by a "pet" icon on the 12306 app and make reservations in advance. The service accommodates domesticated, healthy cats and dogs weighing up to 15 kilograms, with a shoulder height below 40 centimeters and a body length under 52 cm. Travelers with aggressive breeds, sick animals, and pregnant or juvenile pets are unable to book pet services.

During transit, pets remain inside their containers, which are stored in the train's luggage cabinets, separate from passenger areas. Staff members monitor the animals using the containers' built-in systems. After each trip, the containers are cleaned and disinfected, and the cabinets are thoroughly sanitized.
