A public safety robotics laboratory spearheaded by MagicLab Robotics Technology (Wuxi) that is currently being prepared has been designated as a provincial key research facility.
The approval was announced on July 11 by the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Science and Technology. The lab, developed in partnership with the Jiangsu Police Institute, will undergo a two‑year preparatory period.
The laboratory will focus on the intersection of public safety and embodied intelligent robotics, driving the research, development and commercialization of robotic technologies for policing and security applications.
The facility's research will focus on the convergence of public safety needs and embodied robotics, with a particular emphasis on patrol, emergency response, and specialized operational support.
As the lab's primary technology and industrial backer, MagicLab has established itself as a prominent force in China's robotics sector, with notable breakthroughs in motor‑control algorithms, machine vision, and humanoid‑robot development.
Headquartered in Wuxi's Liangxi district, the lab is structured as a collaborative platform bridging corporate R&D, academic research, and industry expertise.
Under a five‑year roadmap, the project envisions a total investment of 105 million yuan ($15.47 million), a 7,000‑square‑meter facility, and a dedicated R&D team of 150 personnel.
Priority areas include high‑reliability, unmanned equipment designed for complex and high‑risk security scenarios, ranging from patrols and rescue operations to specialized intelligent interventions.
MagicLab is scheduled to showcase its public‑safety robotics system at the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference, due to be held in Shanghai from July 17 to 20.
On display will be its advanced robotic unit, developed to handle a broad spectrum of tasks, including traffic control, emergency rescue, urban governance, and public‑order management.
