Wuxi, a major industrial hub in East China, has achieved double-trillion status, joining an elite group of cities with both a GDP exceeding 1 trillion yuan ($147.69 billion) and a total market capitalization of domestically listed companies surpassing 1 trillion yuan.
Among the Yangtze River Delta region's rising stars, Wuxi has posted the most striking gains. The city's listed company market value surged by nearly 1 trillion yuan in the first half of 2026, ranking fourth nationally in terms of growth rate.
Even more notably, Wuxi now boasts six companies with a market value exceeding 100 billion yuan. These firms are concentrated in electronics, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and power equipment.
Wuxi's economic fundamentals provide a solid foundation for its market performance. During the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021–25), the city's GDP advanced by four increments of 100 billion yuan, culminating in a total of 1.68 trillion yuan. Furthermore, the per capita GDP exceeded $30,000, while the industrial output from enterprises categorized above designated size reached 2.7 trillion yuan.
Beyond the numbers, Wuxi was named one of China's happiest cities (prefecture-level) at the 2025 Happy Cities Forum, while Yixing, a county-level city under its administration, received the same honor in its category. With more than 3,000 scenic rivers and lakes, Wuxi continues to build on its legacy as a livable city.
From its origins as a model of the "Southern Jiangsu model" of development, Wuxi is now setting its sights on the next trillion-yuan milestone.
