Confession of Life, a theatrical production created by the Jiangyin Disabled Persons' Federation, made its debut at the Mei Lanfang Grand Theater in Beijing on Aug 31, marking the organization's first appearance on a national stage.

What sets the show apart is its grounding in real experience. Every scene is drawn from the actual lives of people with disabilities in Jiangyin, a county-level city in Wuxi, and most of the cast members play themselves.

The production follows four individuals, each facing different challenges: Zhu Qing, who lost his right hand in a workplace accident and rebuilt his life; Liu Tianyin, who learned to navigate the world after losing his sight; Sun Xinyan, who has used a wheelchair all her life yet remains warm and optimistic; and Gong Dandan, a rural doctor who has made house calls across villages for 35 years despite his physical limitations.

Since its premiere in 2024, the production has toured widely, with 24 performances reaching more than 15,000 people across multiple cities.

For the organizers, the Beijing stop is more than just another show. It also highlights Wuxi's broader work in making culture accessible to disability communities, and offers a chance to showcase the resilience of a group too often defined by its limitations.
