Wuxi made a historic breakthrough at the 48th WorldSkills Competition, which concluded in Shanghai on Sept 27, as competitors Zhu Zhongming and Zhang Zhuo'ang from the Wuxi Institute of Technician Jiangsu Province clinched the silver medal in the Industrial 4.0 category.
This marks Wuxi's first-ever participation and victory in the WorldSkills Competition, setting a new milestone for the city.
WorldSkills is the most prestigious and influential vocational skills competition worldwide. The Industrial 4.0 category, a core and cutting-edge event, requires a high level of comprehensive skills and teamwork. Participants must upgrade a training production line within a specified time, covering system setup and debugging, industrial networking security, sensor and software development, and digital twin applications.
According to Zhang Jun, deputy director of the institute's Skills Competition Office, the two competitors complemented each other perfectly, with Zhu focusing on computer networking while Zhang handling the hardware installation.
Both Zhu and Zhang, born in the 2000s, are teachers at the institute. They began their specialized training in 2019 and have since grown together as a team. Their journey from winning bronze at the first National Skills Competition in 2020 to securing a spot in the national training team showcases their dedication and growth.
An official from the Wuxi human resources and social security bureau emphasized the importance of leveraging the competition's success to foster a culture that respects and values skills, saying that Wuxi is committed to cultivating more craftsmen to ultimately support its high-quality development.
