Wuxi in East China's Jiangsu province donated 100,000 disposable surgical masks to the World Taekwondo Federation on March 17 to aid in the fight against the COVID-19 epidemic.
As the host of the 2021 World Taekwondo Championships, Wuxi and the World Taekwondo Federation maintain a strong relationship. The federation has also sent a letter expressing support and donated some medical supplies to Wuxi in the early days of the outbreak.
The medical supplies are expected to arrive at Seoul, South Korea within a few days.
This is not the first time Wuxi has provided support to organizations and cities around the world.
On March 16, Wuxi donated 60,000 disposable surgical masks and 1,500 sets of protective suits to its sister cities, including Ginhae and Ulsan in South Korea, and Sagamihara in Japan.
Wuxi has maintained sound economic and cultural exchanges with its partners in Japan and South Korea for years.
Wuxi's first sister city -- Akashi in Japan, sent 11 boxes of protective medical supplies to Wuxi in January. Ginhae and Ulsan in South Korea have previously donated 10 boxes of medical masks and protective suits to Wuxi as well.
Choi Young-sam, consul-general of the Republic of Korea in Shanghai, sent a letter to Wuxi Mayor Du Xiaogang expressing his gratitude for the donations. He said that China and South Korea share weal and woe and should continue to help each other in the fight against the COVID-19 epidemic.
"People in South Korea will always remember the helping hand extended by the Wuxi people in times of crisis," said the ambassador.
The medical supplies are expected to arrive at their destinations within two days and help the cities in the battle against the pandemic.
