An exhibition showcasing major scientific and technological achievements in the fields of lunar exploration and deep-sea engineering will be held at Wuxi Museum from May 12 to 17.

In the 700-square-meter exhibition, visitors will be able to admire lunar rocks and soil brought to Earth by Chang'e 5 on Dec 17, 2020, marking a historic accomplishment about 44 years after the last lunar substances were brought back from the moon.

In addition, the orbiter combination, lander, ascender, returner, and main parachute for the returner of Chang'e 5 will also be exhibited.

Models of China's Fendouzhe, Jiaolong, and Shenhai Yongshi (Deep-Sea Warrior) submersibles will be displayed at the deep-sea engineering exhibition area.

All of the country's three deep-sea manned submersibles were developed by the China Ship Scientific Research Center based in Wuxi, China's largest ship and ocean engineering research institute.

The Fendouzhe project was launched in 2016 as a vital part of the country's deep-sea technology and equipment blueprint plan for the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-20).

Fendouzhe set a national record after it dived to a depth of 10,909 meters on Nov 10 in the Challenger Deep, an 11,000-meter-deep chasm located at the bottom of the Mariana Trench in the western Pacific Ocean.

Fendouzhe has shown significant improvements over its predecessors in almost every facet, including descending and ascending speeds, material toughness, as well as battery capacity. It is said to have reached a localization rate of 96.5 percent for its parts and components.

Visitors are required to make an appointment on the official website of Wuxi Museum to see the exhibition. The museum opens from 9 am to 4 pm every day.
