Wuxi in East China's Jiangsu province boosted the construction of airports, highways, China-Europe freight trains, and other transportation services in 2022.
In November, the report on the reconstruction and expansion of the Sunan Shuofang International Airport received approval from provincial authorities. After its reconstruction and expansion, the airport's annual cargo throughput will reach 500,000 metric tons.
In the same month, the Wuxi Dingshu General Airport opened to traffic and will serve as a trial flight base for new aircraft, a general aviation industrial base, and a center for public general aviation services, aviation culture exhibitions, and flight experiences.
In March 2022, the first China-Europe freight train departed Wuxi for Moscow. Since then, the city has dispatched 20 China-Europe freight trains carrying 14,080 tons of cargo worth 380 million yuan ($55.18 million).
In the first 11 months of the year, Wuxi (Jiangyin) Port handled 319 million tons of cargo, up 4.17 percent year-on-year.
To date, the city has also constructed four subway lines with a total length of over 110 kilometers.
According to the Wuxi municipal bureau of transportation, by 2035 it will take just one hour to travel between Wuxi and Suzhou and Changzhou, two hours between cities in the Yangtze River Delta region, and three hours between major cities in China.
