Wuxi in East China's Jiangsu province signed cooperation agreements on 26 projects worth $1.54 billion with Japan at an economic and cultural exchange meeting held in Tokyo, Japan, on May 11.

The projects involve integrated circuits, auto and auto parts, high-end equipment manufacturing, biological medicine, and medical devices.

Zhao Jianjun, mayor of Wuxi, thanked the Japanese for their long-term support for the city's economic and social development.

Zhao noted that Wuxi hopes to partner with the Japanese to strengthen relations between the two countries and deepen cooperation with Japan in industries, science, and technologies.

He added that their cooperation can focus on Japan's competitive industries, including machinery manufacturing, the auto industry, and new energy, the maintenance of stable international supplies, and people-to-people exchanges.

Song Yaoming, minister-counsellor for economic and commercial affairs at the Chinese embassy in Japan, said at the meeting that Wuxi is a great investment destination in China.

In addition to its good location and an advanced industrial system, Wuxi has created a business environment favorable to Japanese companies, Song added.

He also welcomed Japanese people to visit Wuxi and seek business opportunities in the city.

During the meeting, the Wuxi (Tokyo) Business Innovation and Exchange Center and Wuxi Culture and Tourism (Tokyo) Promotion Center were inaugurated to boost cooperation between Wuxi and Japan in trade, culture, and tourism.
