For many foreigners living in the city, The Red Lion bar offers a familiar escape. The menu features classic Western dishes — juicy burgers, crispy fish and chips, and spicy wings— alongside a wide selection of draft beers and cocktails. Meanwhile, Chinese visitors get a chance to try flavors they might not find elsewhere in the city.

"We wanted to create a place where everyone feels welcome," said Les Dingle, one of the bar's family founders. "Whether you're from the UK, the US, or right here in Wuxi, you'll find something you love."

Wuxi has changed a lot over the years. Once known for its industrial roots of tin, the city has transformed into a CBD with modern skyscrapers, shopping centers, and a growing international community. As more expats and businesses move in, places like The Red Lion help bridge cultural gaps by offering a relaxed setting where people can connect.
"When we first opened, there weren't many Western-style bars here," Les said. "But as Wuxi developed, we saw more locals curious about foreign food and drinks. Now, we get regulars from all backgrounds."

What sets The Red Lion apart is its sense of community. The bar hosts weekly events like live music and sports screenings, drawing crowds eager to socialize. For expats, it's a chance to meet others far from home. For locals, it's an opportunity to learn about different cultures.
"I come here to relax after work and chat with my mates," said Wang Lei, a Wuxi local. "The atmosphere here is super friendly, and what I love is that the staff here remembers your name."
As Wuxi continues to grow, The Red Lion bar plans to keep evolving too. The bar hopes to introduce more international dishes and events while staying true to its roots as a cozy neighborhood bar.
"We're proud to be part of Wuxi's story," said Les. "No matter how much the city changes, we'll always be a place where people can feel at home."
Whether you're craving a taste of the West or just looking for a welcoming spot to unwind, The Red Lion bar promises good food, great drinks, and even better company.
