The Wuxi Historical and Cultural City Protection Plan (2025-35) received approval from the provincial government on Aug 13, marking a new phase in the city's efforts to balance modern growth with the preservation of its history.
The plan is significant as it is the first approved 2035 version of the province's national historical and cultural city protection plan. It presents a comprehensive framework for preserving and passing down Wuxi's historical and cultural heritage. This encompasses not only famous landmarks and ancient sites but also intangible cultural aspects that shape the city's distinctive character.
Moreover, the plan highlights the integration of historical preservation with economic and social growth. Protection efforts have been carried out for natural mountain and water landscapes, the Grand Canal heritage, and traditional villages, ensuring that Wuxi's development respects its cultural heritage.
As a crucial plan for the overall territorial space planning, it will act as a vital guide for the city's future development and governance.
