Following a month of renovation, Wuxi Sports Park in Wuxi, East China's Jiangsu province, has recently reopened with a fresh new look.
During the construction shutdown, efforts concentrated on upgrading the fencing and lighting of the soccer field. The lighting upgrade involved installing seven mast lights, each 16 meters tall, and replacing the 101 LED lights with 300-watt fixtures. The entire track and field area now achieves approximately 400 lux of lighting, with certain spots reaching 500 lux, fulfilling the requirements for hosting amateur night events.
The soccer field area now includes a circular steel railing, scientifically divided into two standard 8-a-side fields and three 5-a-side fields. This arrangement supports professional youth soccer training and meets the exercise needs of adult soccer enthusiasts. It also separates the movement paths for the track and the soccer fields.
Additionally, at the northwest entrance of the track and field area, the park will feature a sports station offering beverages, sports equipment, and other athletic goods. Since the renovation, the number of people exercising in the area has tripled.
The former sports park was Wuxi People's Stadium, constructed in 1954. More than 70 years ago, it served as the home ground for the first Jiangsu Province Football League and saw Team Wuxi win its first championship.
The sports park's track and field area is open to the public 24 hours a day for free, with lighting provided for early morning hours from 4 am to 5:20 am and evening hours from 6 pm to 11 pm.
