Founded in 1993, Wuxi Fisheries College, part of Nanjing Agricultural University's Faculty of Animal Science, serves as a key talent development hub. The college was among the first to integrate education, talent cultivation, and research resources to cultivate top-tier innovative professionals in aquaculture and fisheries.

The college provides a range of educational levels, from undergraduate to doctoral and adult higher education, with a focus on aquaculture and aquatic biology as its distinctive fields. Since 2011, it has started enrolling international students.

The college is a reference center for aquaculture and inland fisheries research and training under the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). It functions as a center for international agricultural collaboration and talent development, as well as a regional guidance center for the Network of Aquaculture Centres in Asia-Pacific. The institution maintains over 10 international cooperation platforms and partners with more than 30 organizations, including FAO and the WorldFish Center.

Since 1981, it has conducted national foreign aid technical and training programs, training 4,600 professionals from 133 countries and regions. Starting in 2015, it has hosted a two-year master's program in fisheries for international students, supported by the Ministry of Commerce, attracting over 110 participants from various countries.
