China's Sun wins epee gold at Asian fencing Championships

WUXI, China, April 13 (Xinhua) -- Fencer Sun Yujie from China pocketed the women's epee gold medal at the 2016 Asian fencing Championships here on Wednesday.

Sun and her compatriot, world No. 1 Xu Anqi both upset South Koreans by a last-minute hit in overtime to secure a 1-2 finish. Then the 23-year-old had a 15-7 victory to take the crown from Xu, who won the gold in 2015.

Lei Sheng, the men's foil gold medalist of 2012 London Olympics, was defeated by Cheung Ka Long of Hong Kong, China 15-7 in the semifinal. The 19-year-old dark horse overturned a 11-14 deficit to beat Shikine Takahiro from Japan, which gave Hong Kong, China the first ever gold medal in the Asian fencing Championships.
