Envision Energy, a smart energy technology developer in Wuxi, Jiangsu province, is working to become one of the world's top energy internet service providers in the next three years.

The energy internet is the application of internet of things technology in the energy sector.

Advanced sensors and software applications to connect billions of devices, machines and systems from energy generation and transaction to consumption are its foundations, according to Envision.

"The internet industry has achieved outstanding results over the past 10 years," said Sun Jie, general manager of Envision's strategic and business development. "The main development opportunities will be in IoT in the next decade. The energy internet will be the highlight of the IoT industry."

Over the last two years, Envision has been building an ecosystem of energy-related companies to create the energy internet.

A new energy marketplace is evolving through smart technology, collaboration and synergies. It requires partners in an ecosystem to design, develop and deploy applications at a certain scale and speed, the company said.

Envision has invested in the US electric vehicle charging network operator ChargePoint, the US smart grid big data provider AutoGrid and German energy storage system provider Sonnen.

It has also acquired a 100 percent stake in the Norwegian renewable energy assets management software company BazeField.

Sonnen, a German startup, was reported to have beaten Tesla in battery sales in the first quarter of this year.

Envision has set a goal to manage 200 gigawatts of renewable energy assets worldwide by 2019 through EnOS, its newly launched energy operation system. The company described EnOS as a smart, scalable and open platform that can support the development of energy internet. Through real-time computing and data analysis, it provides intelligent control for how, where and when to produce, store and use energy. The platform, launched in Europe in September, manages more than 50 GW of new energy assets and covers solar power, wind power, charging and energy efficiency, Sun said.

Global operators of new energy businesses, including Pattern Energy, Duke Energy and EverPower , are using this platform. Envision has more than 400 software engineers working on the EnOS platform and its applications, accounting for about 30 percent of its employees.
