Wuxi, in East China's Jiangsu province, has begun to enjoy the dividends of the seventh World Internet of Things Exposition (WIOT) as AstraZeneca China, a multinational pharmaceuticals giant, unveiled its plan to build the city into an Internet of Things health demonstration zone.
The plan was released after AstraZeneca China signed an agreement with Wuxi National Hi-Tech District (WND) to establish a business innovation center in the district. AstraZeneca vowed to cooperate with all its partners to integrate global resources for the establishment of an Internet of Things (IoT) health system in Wuxi, providing smart healthcare solutions for patients.
"Wuxi opens its arms to IoT, which coincides exactly with AstraZeneca's future development plans," said Wang Lei, CEO of AstraZeneca China. He added that Wuxi has been actively promoting IoT, which greater motivates his company to get involved in the field.
Not everyone is able to fully know his/her health status and sometimes we even have no idea how to seek the appropriate medical service. The innovative IoT health system created by AstraZeneca shall provide patients with a comprehensive health management process covering prevention, diagnosis and follow-up tracking.
Liao Jieyuan, who runs an Internet-based hospital in Wuzhen, Zhejiang province, shared his experience after introducing the IoT health system developed by AstraZeneca. He said all the hospital's medical information has been stored on a virtual card, which enables the hospital to allocate and utilize medical resources more reasonably through its central control cabinet.
So far, the pharmaceuticals giant has invested a total of $555 million in Wuxi since the company first settled in the city's National Hi-Tech District in 1993.
