The city of Wuxi in Jiangsu province, which is known for its world-class internet of things (IoT) industry, produced another milestone on Jan 19 when it rolled out the province's first public IoT cloud platform.

The platform, named OneNET, was developed by Wuxi Mobile, the local branch of China Mobile, the country's leading telecommunications services provider.
Based on the company's open and highly scalable design architecture, the platform is capable of storing tens of millions of users' information and is accessible through various types of IoT terminals and protocols. It can provide cloud access and storage and data information for multiplatform IoT applications.

The platform also integrates an array of development tools and application programming interfaces which can help firms handle the development of smart hardware. Its cutting-edge encryption technology and security service center ensure the healthy development of the IoT industry.
After the country launched the Sensing China initiative in 2009, Wuxi led the way in exploring the promising field of IoT. The city hosts the only sensor network innovation demonstration area in China and is recognized as one of China's smartest cities.

As a global center for IoT technology, Wuxi has set up 13 IoT industry alliances to deepen cooperation with global leaders in the field such as Microsoft and Siemens.
By the end of 2016, Wuxi has had more than 1,100 companies with over 150,000 staff engaged in the IoT industry. The city has undertaken IoT projects for more than 20 Chinese provinces and 30 countries worldwide.
