The city of Wuxi held its annual graduate job fair at the Wuxi Taihu International Expo Center on Jan 15, offering more than 7,000 posts, nearly half of which were from private and small enterprises.
Small enterprises call for more talent by improving starting salaries.
Private enterprises and small companies were active at the job fair. "Our company was registered last year, and now has 10 staff members, but we need ten more people this year", said Yin Zhijia, a small enterprise owner. Though these enterprises are small in scale, they can offer a higher salary compared with some large companies. "The monthly salary of a software engineer in Wuxi can reach 8,000 yuan ($1169.8), but we offer 10,000 to 15,000 yuan per month."
The sponsor especially set up an area for 14 university student start-ups with nearly 200 positions such as software engineer, electrical engineer, network engineer and graphic designer.
Graduates have concerns but are still willing to try.
"If I choose a small enterprise for my first job, I will be more cautious because I don't want my career will be influenced due to a slow-developing enterprise", said a graduate from Nanjing Forestry University. He added, "If I have an opportunity with a small enterprise and the company seems promising, I will give them try."
Graduates who have the spirit of adventure and entrepreneurial intentions can choose this kind of enterprise to improve their ability over a short period.
Small enterprises can receive government subsidies for recruitment.
Small enterprises are eligible to receive a one-year subsidy for social insurance provided by the government if they hire a graduate who is seeking their first job within two years after graduating, and is willing to sign a contract of more than one year. If these enterprises offer pre-job training, they can also get a training allowance from the government.
