While Qin may seem to be predominately aid pedestrians, he has also had a profound impact on the lives of drivers, many of whom are commuters, and he has undoubtedly provided comfort and stability on his countless days of work.

"Some drivers roll down the window to offer me a greeting, which gives me a deep kind of happiness that I can't describe with words."

Qin has become something of a local celebrity for Wuxi residents with many, such as this woman, stopping to snap a photo with the 55 year old man. [Photo provided to China Daily]

Qin's commitment to the job verges on legendary and in 16 years of service he has never asked for leave. Furthermore, unlike many regular jobs, Qin's life becomes busier and more stressful on weekends and holidays.

"When it comes to weekends or holidays, we are ever busier than usual. That is simply the nature of traffic management," Qin said.

At the end of the month, Qin will return to his hometown Jingjiang, a county-level city of Taizhou in Jiangsu province, and spend the rest of his life with his family. Although his future is deservedly full of relaxation and joy, when he finally leaves his post on Feb 28 he is certainly missed by citizens of Wuxi.

Traffic police and local residents say their last thanks to Qin at a farewell ceremony held on Feb 28, 2017. [Photo provided to China Daily]
