Local authorities in the city of Wuxi have confirmed the annual Taihu Lake Hike at a press conference held on April 21. The date is set for May 7 and will excite hiking enthusiasts by offering a wonderful opportunity to enjoy one of Jiangsu province's premier sites.
Contrary to previous hikes, this year's event has been scheduled for early May in an attempt to offer participants ideal temperature and weather. The hike starts from Taihu International Exhibition Center, travels through two local wetland parks, Shangxian River and Gonghuwan wetland parks, and traces some stunning local scenery. The organizers offer both a 10km and a 30km route to appeal to hikers of various abilities.
Volunteers, security guards, and medical professionals will be on site to ensure a safe and fun hiking experience for the estimated number of 12,000 individuals set to be involved. 1,000 people will be recruited to serve participants which are expected to reach 12,000 and improve their walking experience.
The annual hike is part of Wuxi's Netizen Public Welfare Sports Meeting which consists of 11 competitions this year and will run from April to November with the aim of raising public awareness of health and exercise.

The fifth cyber-culture themed event was also launched during the news conference. There will be 41 cyber-culture activities during the event, the activities hope to use online resources as a means of promoting local traditional culture, reading, public welfare, safety, and legal education.
