The scenic Shangxian River, Gonghuwan wetland, and Xuntang ancient town were just a few of the picturesque spots on the hiking route.

Wuxi locals were not the only ones hitting the streets, with hikers from all walks of life joining in, those from nearby cities, as well as many expat workers and students.

"I like to exercise often and go to gym to keep fit," said Zhang Tao, a university student from Shanghai currently working as an intern in Wuxi. "It's the first time I've taken part in the hike here in Wuxi and I love the beautiful environment."

Chen Weinan, 68, has taken part in the event every year it has been held, and said the hike is not to be missed.

Jiangnan Univeristy student, Shoaib Meo, from Pakistan, said he was taking part in the hike to see some beautiful places and spring flowers in full bloom.

Hosted by Wuxi's publicity department, sports bureau and Wuxi Internet Association and sponsored by Postal Savings Bank of China. The annual hike is an important part of the city's Netizen Public Welfare Sports Meeting which runs from April to November, holding many sports events such as basketball, canoeing, and martial arts.
