The city of Wuxi has been selected to become a "Demonstration City of Tourism and Leisure" by the China National Tourism Administration.
The competition to gain this prestigious new title was fierce: Wuxi was one of only ten cities to be chosen, and the only one in Jiangsu province.
The announcement was made at the 3rd All-for-One Tourism Promotion Conference & Promotion for Shaanxi Province held in Xi'an on Aug 3.
Being a demonstration city could be lucrative for Wuxi. If the city succeeds in meeting a strict set of requirements over the next few years, it will qualify for a whole raft of special funding and subsidies from the Chinese government.
But the hard work starts now. The CNTA has set requirements for all sorts of things, including overall environment, leisure space and products, infrastructure and services, promotional measures, and management systems concerning tourism and leisure facilities.
