It's a marathon; it's all about running.

Though it was Wuxi's coldest day of the winter so far with temperatures at just 2.4 C, the passion of the runners warmed the chilly air as they pounded toward the rising morning sun.

More than 10,000 runners from over 35 countries took part in the 2017 Beverly Around Lihu Lake International Half Marathon in Wuxi on Nov 19.

When the starting pistol sounded, more than 1,300 volunteers started attentively serving runners on the road, handing out supplies and cheering them on. Besides, photographers from Wuxi Volunteering Photographers Group and professional digital imaging service provider IYundong were ready to catch the best moments at points along the route.

What they say:

Liu Jie from Beijing

"I didn't feel cold at all. The crowd is amazing, the cheers impressed me a lot and brought me strength. I finished this half marathon in 01:56. It's good. My husband loves running and I followed him to run marathon five years ago. My personal best performance was in the Hangzhou full marathon, completed in 04:11."

Don Kenny from US

"The Wuxi marathon and half marathon are some of the best organized I've seen in China. Support on the course, crowds are good, they always have enough refreshments and very loud cheers, and the package pick-up is very quick. It is very well organized."

Foloma Evalistus EL from South Africa

"I love this one more than previous ones. When I was running I enjoyed the landscape, the water, the forest, the people. I was more motivated by people cheering 'come on come on'."

David Sutton from UK

"This is my third race. My personal best performance. This is the best race in China. I will come here for marathon next year. I am getting old and still trying to feel young."

Simon Baker from UK

"This is my fifth half marathon. I've got my personal best performance today. When I was a kid I started to run and started to run half marathons five years ago. Running is good to keep healthy. A goal to focus. Something to keep me busy. I enjoy the hobby and it keeps me healthy."

Xavier from France

"It's very well organized. It's moved. It's very easy to pick or drop off the bags, go to the starter's area. I am living in Shanghai. It's not far away from Wuxi. I will come back for the Wuxi marathon."
