Wuxi's two villages won the title of "2017 China Beautiful Leisure Countryside" at a rural construction experience sharing session in southwest China's Sichuan province on Dec 5.

Zhangyang village in Yixing city and Hongdou village in Jiangyin city became demonstration areas of new rural construction and rural tourism development.

It has advantages in natural environment and social organization. With mountains, waterscapes, forests and tea gardens, it exemplifies traditional villages in the Yangtze River scenic area.

Hongdou village in Jiangyin is noted for its red beans, from which name derives.

The village is famous for a 1,500-year-old red bean tree, planted by Prince Zhaoming in the Northern and Southern Dynasties (420-589).

With its profound history, Hongdou village is rich in traditional customs and Chinese food, including the Gushan Eight Bowl, which is made up of eight steamed dishes with meat, fish and vegetables.

Hongdou village abounds not only with red beans but also with tasty peaches, another treat for which Wuxi is famous nationwide.
