A group of school students from Meicun, Wuxi's Xinwu district, added some fashion to the city's ancient street, Nanchang Street, with their erhu (a two-stringed bowed musical instrument) flash mob on July 7.
Taking up position at the gate of Nanchang Street and the bridge over the Ancient Canal, students playing the famous local erhu song Tai Hu Mei (The Beauty of Taihu Lake) attracted plenty of visitors.
With some students playing other traditional Chinese instruments, over 20 performers began moving together to the rhythm of the music, concentrating the essence of Chinese music with the ancient area.

The flash mob was a warmup for Jiangsu's Youth Erhu Competition. Organized by the Provincial Association of Jiangsu Musicians, the competition will be held in Meicun in Wuxi's Xinwu district from July 13 to 15.
Regarded as the erhu capital of China, Meicun's erhu-making craftsmanship was listed as a Jiangsu province intangible cultural heritage in 2011.
