A youth sailing competition of the 19th Sports Games of Jiangsu was held on the waters of Lihu Lake in the city of Wuxi in East China, from Aug 10 to 15. A fashionable sport with high intellectual demands, youth sailing at the provincial level aims for higher participation, richer event content and wider coverage.
Jiangsu sees the competition as an opportunity to mobilize the enthusiasm of youth for sailing, promote the development of sailing clubs in the province with the competition as a starting point, and organize resources of coaches, referees and athletes.
Members of sailing teams from different Jiangsu cities competed for the gold, silver and bronze medals for six days on Lihu Lake, through 13 rounds (12 rounds of track sailing and one round of Olympic long-distance racing), challenging their physical strength, endurance and psychology.
The competition has two events, OP sail boat and iboat. The iboat is a local product researched and developed in Jiangsu province, and using it in the provincial games would be a major influence on Jiangsu's sailboat industry.
The competition was on a relatively easy schedule. In order to lighten the atmosphere and provide a pleasant experience for the young athletes, the organizers arranged a series of activities for them and their parents in the free time periods during the competition, including a sailing talent show and theme party activities.
The sailing competition is hosted by the Jiangsu Provincial Sports Bureau and the Jiangsu Education Department, jointly assisted by the Wuxi Municipal Government, the Jiangsu Water Sports Management Center, and the Jiangsu Yachting Association. It has received strong support from the sailing clubs in the province.
