The first World Internal Combustion Engine Congress kicked off in Wuxi, Jiangsu province on Nov 9.

Sponsored by the China Internal Combustion Engine Industry Association and the Wuxi municipal government, the congress is the most influential and comprehensive event in the global industry.

The congress includes one main summit, one IoT application and production exhibition, two high-end forums and eight series of events.

Over 380 heavyweights have been invited to the congress, including 19 academicians from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 156 experts and scholars from home and abroad, including Peter Müller-Baum, general-secretary of the International Council on Combustion engines (CIMAC).

According to Müller-Baum, CIMAC holds a world congress and exhibition every three years to promote scientific exchange on internal combustion engine technology. In his opinion, the answer to solutions for clean and CO2-neutral technology is the defossilization of energy sources with synthetic fuels and P2X-technology, which will be further discussed during the congress.

The number of total participants is expected to exceed 1,500 and includes leaders of national ministries and commissions, as well as Jiangsu province officials. Six world famous entrepreneurs and scholars gave keynote speeches during the opening ceremony.

Li Jun, president of the China Internal Combustion Engine Industry Association, talked about his research on the development trend of internal combustion engine power for passenger cars in China.

China's internal combustion engine production and sales have been the bestselling in the world for eight consecutive years, accounting for one-third of the world's total. Each year, the total power produced by internal combustion engines exceeds the total installed capacity of all the national power plants in China.

China also has the most complete systems for spare parts, personnel training, research and development, and manufacturing in the world.

In order to better promote the latest technology and products globally, an exhibition will be held simultaneously to display the cutting-edge internal combustion engines, technologies and equipment at the Taihu International Expo Center.

Besides the opening and closing ceremonies, the event will offer eight forums covering efficient and clean combustion, emissions and reprocessing, fuels and lubricants, high-efficiency supercharging, green and intelligent ship power, and low-carbon energy and efficient utilization.

With years of development, Wuxi has grown into an important manufacturing base for internal combustion engines in China, with more than 200 companies in a complete industrial chain.

The city is also home to many of the world's leading manufacturers of high-pressure diesel engines, turbochargers, exhaust gas after-treatment systems and advanced internal combustion engine products.
