Traditional crafts inherited in colleges

A total of 42 traditional craft activities were staged at Wuxi Vocational Institute of Commerce from Dec 7-8 during a seminar on inheritance and development of traditional crafts in vocational colleges.

Over 5,000 participants enjoyed charming traditional Chinese crafts, including clay sculpture, embroidery, paper cutting, tie dyeing, lacquer art, bamboo weaving, wood carving and wood printing, which were performed by nine master teams and 33 student teams from 25 institutes nationwide.

In order to show the achievements of traditional culture education, the seminar was made up of academic representation, the exchange and sharing of educational experiences, presentations on traditional skills and techniques and collections of papers and cases.

One of the masters invited by Wuxi Vocational Institute of Commerce, Yu Xianglian, displayed her Huishan clay figurines from traditional Chinese opera. As a renowned master of Huishan clay figurines, she was glad to witness traditional culture being inherited and innovated upon in colleges.
