The first app for the CAE Cloud Platform, swOpenFOAM, which was developed by the National Supercomputing Center in Wuxi, Jiangsu province, made its debut on Dec 20.

The swOpenFOAM program is an upgraded version of OpenFOAM, one of the most widely used hydrodynamic software programs in the world.

The improved APP can adapt to the modern multi-core parallel architecture and show off its power on a super-computing platform.

Most commercial software used in the country was developed abroad, but swOpenFOAM proves that the National Supercomputing Center in Wuxi made breakthroughs in both research and development and application and showed the importance of supercomputing in high performance applications, according to Yang Guangwen, head of the center.

Since its launch two years ago, the center's peak performance and sustainability have been ranked first on the world's TOP 500 supercomputer list four consecutive times, Yang noted.

He went on to say that the center has cooperated with over 30 institutes including Tsinghua University, Peking University and the Chinese Academy of Sciences by conducting large-scale computations for more than 50 research projects.

He said the independently developed APP opened up a new path for innovative simulation design using supercomputing and laid a foundation for building more industrial innovation platforms and stimulating the local economy.

Wang Guolei, manager of Envision Energy's CFD business, said the company took the lead by using the software for high-resolution wind resource prediction and near-field high-precision computational fluid simulation, which laid a solid foundation for wind field design, accurate site selection of wind turbines and efficient utilization of wind resources.

Envision Energy is one of the first test users of the software.

The CAE Cloud Platform will offer online simulation service, improve companies' design and innovation ability, and help enterprises transform and upgrade at low cost and low risk, according to Ren Hu, director of the Advanced Manufacturing Department at the National Supercomputing Center in Wuxi.

Lu added that the platform will also provide both hardware and software ranging from infrastructural facilities to complete solutions.
