Edvard Moser, a Norwegian neuroscientist and the 2014 Nobel laureate in physiology and medicine, signed paperwork on Feb 25 to set up his work station in Wuxi's Xishan district in East China's Jiangsu province.

Xishan district invited Edvard Moser to take part in its "World's Top Scientists Platform" project and work as its chief scientist. Jiangsu Tianyi High School has also employed him as an extramural academic advisor.

Edvard Moser is looking to further increase the economy and technical innovation development in Xishan district and said the work station will help introduce more foreign talents.

Gu Zhongming, Party secretary of Xishan district, stressed the importance of talent and innovation, saying the government will give full support to the construction and operation of the work station.

Xishan district continues to bring in investment and talent from overseas for its modernization drive, supporting projects with capital, advanced technologies, valuable managerial expertise and outstanding human resources.

A series of measures to promote the development of industrial innovation were launched, including the "Xishan Talent Plan". Financial support of up to 100 million yuan ($14.9 million) is available for major science and technology projects and top talents and teams.

Last June, BMF Material, a Shenzhen-based leading advanced manufacturing company, inked a deal to carry out a high-precision additive manufacturing project, building a state-level precision additive innovation research institute and an industrial base for 3D printing in Wuxi's Xishan district.

The Microsoft Artificial Intelligence Talent Development and Certification Program was also among the projects that settled in Xishan in 2018, aiming to encourage more hi-tech enterprises to invest in the district.
