Wuxi named most livable city in Chinese mainland

Wuxi in East China's Jiangsu province has been recognized as the most livable city in the Chinese mainland for three years running by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, according to a report released on June 24.

The 2018 report of China's urban competitiveness, which was compiled by the National Academy of Economic Strategy of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, compared the competitiveness of Chinese cities regarding comprehensive economy, sustainability, livability and business-friendliness from 2017 to 2018.

In the past year, the city has shown outstanding competitiveness in education, medical care, talent and economic environment.

A total of 35 primary and secondary schools and kindergartens were built, and four provincial modern demonstration (high-quality special) vocational schools constructed. Wuxi Campus of Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology Binjiang College was opened. Nanjing University of Science and Technology signed an agreement to build a campus in Jiangyin. The new campus of Xishan People's Hospital was put into operation, and a number of medical technology collaboration centers were established.

Wuxi has released Taihu Talent Plan 2.0 to attract talents of all kinds to 74,900 people and 12 academician workstations. The city also host events and meetings for foreign cities to communicate and exchange ideas on city development.

According to the report, Hong Kong remained at the top of the 2018 list of Chinese sustainable cities. Hong Kong is considered to have the strongest livable competitiveness. It has maintained its top position for three consecutive years.
