The 2019 Xishan Wanshanlake International Marathon is set to kick off in Xishan, a district in Wuxi, Jiangsu province, on Nov 10, according to a press conference held in the city on Nov 1.
The event's theme song – Running Wanshanlake Marathon – as well as its MV and medals were released at the press conference.
This year's marathon will be expanded from last year's 6,000 runners to 12,000 for the 42.195-kilometer full marathon and 5-kilometer mini-marathon.
A total prize of 600,000 yuan ($87,370) will be awarded to the fastest 20 runners for both the full and mini-marathons.
The event boasts a beautiful running route along the flower sea of the district's Wanshan Lake, providing runners with some spectacular sights.
To provide a better experience for runners, 2,500 volunteers are expected to serve as guides and provide supplies along the route.
Thirteen ambulances, roughly 60 automated external defibrillators (AED) and 300 medical aid runners will also be equipped at the scene to guarantee safety.
A fixed medical station will be set up at the start and every 2 km along the track, as well as a comprehensive medical station every 10 km along the track and at the finishing line.
More than 150 professional staff members from the local rehabilitation hospital will wait at the finishing line to help participants recover after the race.
The medal features winding running tracks and three runners on its front and the Pearl Pagoda on its back. [Photo provided to chinadaily.com.cn]
