A Chinese runner claimed first place in the women's full race of the 2019 Xishan Wanshan Lake International Marathon held on Nov 10 in Xishan, a district in Wuxi, East China's Jiangsu province.

Wu Xuanxia from eastern Anhui province won the competition with a time of 2 hours 44 minutes and 3 seconds. She was directly admitted to the race after winning second place in the Wanshan Lake Female Half Marathon.

The Anhui native said after the award ceremony that she was pleased with her performance today, as she set a new personal record.

Cheshari Kirui Jacob from Kenya won the men's full marathon with a time of 2 hours 16 minutes and 17 seconds.

The Xishan marathon attracted 12,000 runners from 27 countries and consisted of two separate races, with 8,000 running the full marathon (42.195 km) and 4,000 taking part in the mini marathon (5 km).

A total of 600,000 yuan ($87,370) in prize money was awarded to the fastest 20 runners in both marathons.

The event boasts a beautiful route along the district's Wanshan Lake, offering some spectacular views for runners.

To provide a better experience for runners, 2,500 volunteers served as guides and provided supplies along the route, and 13 ambulances, around 60 automated external defibrillators (AED), and 300 medical aid runners were also present at the scene to ensure safety.

The Xishan marathon was sponsored by the Chinese Athletics Association and the Xishan district government and organized by the Xishan district bureau of culture, sports and tourism and Jiangsu Suao Sports Co.
