Yuan Zijie, a 66-year-old disabled man who lives by himself said he's not afraid of living alone.
His modest house is equipped with three IR people locators in his bedroom, bathroom, and living room, a sensor near his front door, and a smoke and gas alarm.
He is also able to call for help without leaving his bed with the help of a 4G-connected remote control on his nightstand.
Yuan suffered a three-day cold in May but decided not to call for help. However, staff were able to recognize that he was ill using the sensors in his house and called him up via a 4G intercom.
"We found it strange that he was spending so much time in his bedroom so we decided to check up on him," said Shao Wenyi, an employee of An Kang Tong Homecare and Healthcare Co. The company sent some employees to visit the old man over the next few days.
The Wuxi government provides free elderly care services for around 126,000 elderly seniors -- which includes the aforementioned sensors.
The government is currently working to improve its pension service subsidy system and expand the list of beneficiaries. The city has spent a total of 62.42 million yuan ($8.9 million) on elderly care services this year.
