People in Wuxi will be able to enjoy 180 exhibitions and social and educational activities both online and offline until Aug 15.

The city in East China's Jiangsu province is hosting the first "culture venue month" starting July 15, aiming to encourage locals to take part in a series of cultural events and revive the cultural industry as the novel coronavirus outbreak in China subsides.

"At present, Wuxi is home to about 250 cultural venues which hosted nearly 3,000 cultural events and exhibitions in 2019," said Zhang Shufeng, deputy director of the Wuxi Culture, Radio, Television, and Tourism Bureau.

Xiao Yan, who has been working in Wuxi for one year, said culture venues are easy to find in Wuxi, "They are everywhere, just like convenience stores."

Wuxi has built various branch libraries of the Wuxi Library at historical tourist attractions such as Donglin Academy and the Former Residence of Xue Fucheng, as well as in metro stations and shopping plazas including Jingdong Plaza.

In order to attract more visitors and increase interest in historical Chinese culture, Donglin Academy and Hongshan Site Museum have started to offer free admission in recent years.

The Wuxi Library and Wuxi Museum became more popular online by offering AR lessons, online exhibitions and live streaming speeches.

According to officials, 75 events at key culture revenues in the Yangtze River Delta region will also be held to promote the integrated development of cultural tourism.
