Anyone questioning the future impact and relevancy of the two sessions recently held by CPPCC Wuxi committee and Wuxi People's Congress should shed their doubt and rest assured that active measures are being taken to address civilian quality of life.
The government report delivered by Wang Quan, the city's mayor, at the First Session of the 16th Wuxi Municipal People's Congress, outlined the targets set by local government to develop eight specific aspects to ensure 2017 is an abundant and prosperous one for the city.
In terms of improving the lives of Wuxi citizens, the local government has announced ten measures that will be implemented over the coming year. They are listed below.
1. From poverty to prosperity
Help at least 30 impoverished villages increase their annual revenue exceed 2 million yuan ($290,000).
2. Water regulation
Renovate ten polluted rivers in Wuxi; Qianjia Bridge River, Helie River, Xuxi River, Zhujia Bridge River, Panbu Bridge River, Tieshu Bridge River, Tangzhou Alley River, Minfeng River, Meixi River and Duiqiao Alley River.
3. Road construction
Launch the construction of eight main roads in the city; New Xicheng Road, the northern extension of Xingchang Road and Tongsha Road, Xianqu Road, Xiyuan Road, East Wuqiao Road, Zhongshan Road (Qingshi Sub-Road), and Pinghu Road.
4. Renovate old residences
Complete the renovation of old residential district covering a total area of 217,000 square meters, including 500,000 sq m2 of dilapidated buildings.

5. Public transportation
Start phase one construction of Wuxi Metro Line 4. Start the preparation work of Xicheng Intercity Railway S1, a line connecting Wuxi-Jiangyin-Jinjiang. Develop the public bicycle sharing system by introducing an additional 10,000 public bicycles and 400 bicycle stations. Open a further 10 bus lines and add 150 clean energy buses.
